Adulthood

I feel like this All. The. Time. Sometimes I look around and wonder who thought it was a good idea to let me live by myself, pay my own bills, and teach children when I still haven't figured out how it is that people save money instead of spending it on clothes. Happy hump day!

The Great Perhaps

Looking For Alaska by John Green "I Go To Seek A Great Perhaps" (Plain Black) by runswithwolves

It may only be hump day, but it seems like a perfect day to go and seek your great perhaps! I can't think of anything more exciting.

Happy seeking!

Get After It

I saw this on Pinterest (where else?), and I just thought, "well damn."

Don't you hate when all your excuses don't seem to have a leg to stand on anymore? I catch myself sitting on my couch, watching TV, thinking of all sorts of excuses for why I can't grade those papers, work out today, make a real meal for myself. If I started doing one of those things when I started making excuses for why I couldn't, it would be done already! This will be my new mantra.

PS: You can own this mug! This cute Etsy shop has this and other awesome mugs/waterbottles/totes! You better believe I just ordered the water bottle with this quote on it. So awesome for working out!

Commitment

Have you ever noticed that February is where New Year's resolutions go to die? I saw one of those e-card that said something along the lines of "I've been dieting all morning. Am I skinny yet?!" It made me laugh out loud because it's so true! Those endorphins are a powerful drug, man, but one day does not a skinny girl make.

I saw this quote about commitment the other day, and it really resonated.

How true is that? I have been trying to live a more all-around healthy lifestyle for about a year now, but I keep falling on and off the commitment wagon because, let's face it, eating mac and cheese is a lot more tempting than going to a spin class. Here's to staying committed even when it's not fun or easy!

Remember that time I had a blog?

Yeah, me either. Here I am, almost a year after my last post, blowing the dust off A Few Little Happies, and ready to hop back into the bloggy universe! Well, sort of.

For a while I felt like I lost touch with why I carved out this little corner of the Internet for myself. Surely it wasn't just to make lists of things I want, right? Well, maybe sometimes, but definitely not all the time, which is what I felt it was turning into.

Love this!

I originally wanted to create this blog to have a space that I could explore and that could make me smile. After all, there are a lot of things in life that seem to only be put there to make you not smile (I'm looking at you, Tuesday Faculty Meetings).

The other reason I want to recommit to this blog is because of my dad. (Hey dad!) He is constantly telling me that I need to be writing, and while I have my doubts as to whether I really have much to say, he's told me that writers keep track of their thoughts...in writing. Since this is 2014 and we're living in the future (wait...where's my flying car?!) and all, journals make more sense in blog-form. One of my February resolutions (it's a thing) is to pursue things that make me happy just for their own sake, so this is the place where I'll catalog them!

So there ya go...I'm back baby! I'll be redirecting my efforts to make this a space for things that make me happy...and that I think will make you happy, too.

Number one through ten on the list of things that make me happy are my precious nugget, Gatsby, so I'll leave you with a picture of him looking spring break ready in his Hawaiian shirt!

I mean really...if cute was a crime, this would be a felony.

Do Anything

It's been one of those weeks where this has been my mantra. With progress reports, trying to get on the work out train, making sure my nugget gets loved on (yes, I'm talking about my dog), trying to make time to make healthy meals, planning lessons, making lesson materials, blah, blah blah....it's been a good week, but a tiring one. Here's to being anything, not everything.

Buying Happiness

Can I get an amen? After being at school for 13 hours yesterday for school/Back to School night, ice cream was the only thing that could make me and my exhausted self feel like I could take on today. Hey, whatever works, right?

Friday Happies

Happy Friday! I hope you all have fabulous weekends planned! I'm excited to go to the farmer's market to stock up on yummy produce and to one of my best friend's wedding shower, but will otherwise probably be pretty laid back, as school is starting FOR REAL on Monday. Here are some things that are making me smile...

The new 652-page InStyle fall issue. O EM GEE. I'm not the biggest JLo fan, but something tells me with over 650 pages of lovelies, I won't really mind...reading this will be my reward for when I actually get my first unit planned...

Gatsby's precious face when I told him I would be going back to school next week. Just kidding, but I imagine he's thinking, "wait, so we can't play all day anymore?"

This pretty freebie that will definitely find a place in my classroom this year. As a classroom teacher, I support all of these statements!

Happy Friday! See you next week!

"If This Isn't Nice, I Don't Know What Is"

Summer is coming to a close pretty soon for this teacher. I'm moving to a new school this year and am more than a little nervous about planning and delivering the best I can for my new kids. Sometimes (OK, a lot of times), I can let this nervousness and stress get in the way of enjoying the abundance of happies around me. Hopefully, this blog will serve as a reminder to me (and anyone who stumbles across it) that there are a lot of things to be happy about. Personally, I am choosing to focus on the fact that I am drinking my second iced coffee and playing fetch with my dog while watching Burn Notice reruns right now instead of...well...a lot of other things.

If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.
